The word “jeremiad” refers to a lamentation over society’s moral or social decay and comes from Jeremiah, a prophet, who lived from about 650 to 570 B.C. and spent his days speaking out against social injustice.
At JEREMIAD, we carry on that legacy of speaking truth to power—particularly against the harms of the fast fashion industry. To that end, our mission is simple: to create clothing and apparel sustainably so that people don’t only look good, but feel good too—about their positive social impact.
With the values of integrity, transparency, quality, innovation, and customer service leading the way, our vision of a better world for those now living and those yet unborn is demonstrated by our commitment to take responsibility for the impacts that our business decisions have on people and their communities, and to curb the social and environmental degradation associated with textile waste.
JEREMIAD Logo (Quintessence)
Long ago, when people believed that everything was made up of four elements—earth, air, fire, and water—they thought the stars and planets were made up of yet another element, quinta essentia, Latin for "fifth essence." It was believed that the quinta essentia was essential to all kinds of matter, and that if it could somehow be isolated, it would be a cure-all for all of society’s problems. Although people have since given up on that idea, quintessence—the offspring of quinta essentia—has lived on as a word for the purest essence of a thing.

To that end, our logo embodies quinta essentia by combining the astrological symbol for Jupiter with a nondescript heart. Jupiter, the Roman god of the sky is said to represent wisdom and the crescent rising alongside the cross symbolizes Jupiter’s role in raising our consciousness above and beyond materiality. We believe that there’s no better way to do that than through love, and that’s why here at JEREMIAD, corporate governance meets social responsibility. To be sure, we make designs with what’s divine in mind.
